As lonely and tragic as it sounds, suicide is a major health problem and a leading cause of death among the youth nowadays. This is lead by intense emotional, physical, mental and psychological struggle of an individual that often leads to depression. We all have problems and we fight different battles each day. We stumble upon nerve wrecking situations we find hard to handle that we neglect and keep them to ourselves, hidden in the corners of our minds. People might appear happy outside when in reality, they’re drowning within. As we talk to our family, friends, classmates and even strangers, have you ever wondered what’s going on with their lives? If you ask how they’re doing, are you sure they’re really okay? This world is in need of a more empathetic, sensitive and understanding society who listens and responds to the most important issues especially those affecting the youth. Suicide and depression is not a joke, and it can happen to anyone anytime. Let us all be responsible individuals. Let us not take our friends, family and other people who look out for us for granted. The least we can do is be aware of the words we utter and of the actions we show toward others because we don’t really know what’s going on in a person’s mind and our words, our actions might become their trigger. It’s a disease, which can be passed on to people. If you feel the need to talk to someone, don’t hold back. Talk to someone who really listens and never be afraid of being fragile. Sometimes, we have to open up to people and also listen to what they have to say before our darkest thoughts swallow us whole.
